Got my new 2GB Corsair XMS2 DHX today (TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX).
Installed it, CPU running but my monitor wont start.

I am using Asus P5B-VM mobo with core2duo E6400 @ 2133MHz.

What could be the problem?

Sounds like a graphics problem more than a ram one, if there was a ram prob it should at least post... try putting in the old ram again to make sure you didn't accidentally short something out or something like that

@kraynor
I am using the old ram right now.Which is a single module in single channel. Even tried the corsair single module at a time, no luck, still the monitor wont satrt.

@waspy
ya posting these message with the help of the old one.

Hi rajm,

seems to me that you'll need to do CMOS clear (resetting your mobo). Read your mobo manual on how to do this.

The reason is sometimes mobo doesn't automatically recognized the new RAM, and thinking that they are still using the old one.

cheers ^^

Ok. Will read about that.

Sorry!! Did not mention this earlier, when i put back my old ram(single module) at startup it says
"OverClocking failed ! Please enter setup to re-configure your system."
"Press F1 to run setup"
"Press F2 to load defaults values & continue"

Are you overclocking?

If you OCing, then you should reset your CMOS (back to default) and starting to configure everything again. Seems that your mobo still configured for the last RAM.

no i am not overclocking. had once did on my old ram, but that was like 3 months ago and had got back to default configuration after one month or so.
Even now when i put back my old ram,it displays this message and i set the bios setting to default and then try to install the corsair's again, but no luck.

my mobo manual says that i dont need to clear the RTC RAM if overclocking fails.the bios automatically resets the parameters.but will try to clear CMOS and put back the corsair's.

Yes indeed, but as I mentioned before, some mobos for some reasons can not automatically reconfiguring for the new RAM.

Here are other things:

1) what is your old RAM specs?

2) see your new RAM specs? esp. on voltage, is it on the mobo's capability/specs?

old ram
DDR2-533 (PC2-4300) 4-4-4-11

new corsair
DDR2-800 (PC26400) 5-5-5-18, 1.8V

ya my mobo supports PC2-6400 (800MHz).

I see, so it's same as mine (PC2-6400 Corsair, but XMS2, not DHX).

Still not working? Even after you're clearing CMOS? Strange ... Mine is at 1.8V too, so I don't think that would be a problem.

Try to use one stick only and see the result (try to swap one and another on different slot).

not yet cleared CMOS manually,using that small 2 pins available on mobo.

i have tried eveything, using only one module in one at a time in one of the two channels.tried to use in dual channel configuration in both of the dual channels.

Using the old stick, get into the bios, and set memory speed to 800 MHz, 1.9v, 5-5-5-15. save and exit - turn off, stick one stick of the new memory in and see what happens.

@XMSYellowbeard
ya i have flashed my bios with latest version available on ASUS site. cleared CMOS with old ram,and then installed the new ram, did not help.

@righteous
its mentioned 1.8V on each of the sticks. and my mobo bios shows max of 1.95V memory voltage.i have tried to run on this max voltage,did not help.
so is this the reason why the memory is not able to run on my mobo??
do you also have DHX memory??

i have tried these same ram sticks on another ASUS P5B-VM, but even dint get display in that system(did not clear the CMOS or update bios) just inserted to test.
and also tried on asus m2n mx se (dont know how this mobo responds to corsair memory),but it had mentioned about corsair in its support list in manual. and in this system also the monitor did not start.

so is the problem with these sticks or my mobo?? still cant find out !!

well, seems to me you have tried everything ...

Bad sticks? I'm using XMS2 with 1.8V with no problems at all. Couldn't think anything else, could be bad sticks ...
