Hi,

I'm running a dual processor capable Tyan Tempest 5000i board with a single xeon 5160 1333 woodcrest at the moment ans the time has come to spend out on another processor for the board. I know a place selling HP parts and can get a HP woodcrest 5160 for a good price. I'm wondering, is there a difference between the standard xeon and the HP boxed one?

I have the proper heatsink for the extra processor, It is just the chip I'm in need of.... Any help greatly appreciated,....

Cheers

There's no difference between a HP boxed, Intel boxed, or OEM version of the chip. However, although I'm not sure about HP boxed, OEM version of the CPU usually have lower warranty (1 yr vs. 3 yrs) compared to Intel boxed. You should make sure before you make the purchase.

Other than that, and with the absence of heatsink, they're the same.
