A CPU question

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 in my computer. (a dual core 3GHz cpu)
CPU-Z says:
Core Speed - 2003.7 MHz
Multiplier - x6.0
Bus Speed - 334.0 MHz
Rated FSB - 1335.8 MHz

On occassion the multiplier jumps up to x9.0 and the core speed does reach it's normal 3000 MHz.
I am not sure why this happens, do I have a wrong setting selected in my bios? Everything is set to automatic.
Motherboard is ASUSTeK Computer INC. - P5K Deluxe with chipset Intel P35/G33/G31

Can someone help me out, I'm not overly knowledgeable in this area.
