I just ordered the parts for my first build. Most have now arrived at my door. However, my case (Antec P182) and heatsink/paste/CPU fan (zerotherm nirvana) are delayed several days.
Should I go ahead and fire up my Q6600 and test my system on the table to make sure all the parts work - either using a box fan or the heatsink/cpu fan off of an old AMD PC? Or should I wait for the other parts to come in?
Yeah, don't do that. Not unless you want to fry your chip... You'd be surprised how fast a chip goes from room temp to 90C w/o a cooler. Plus, some boards won't even start w/o the cooler attached. Anyways, BAD IDEA!
Yeah my athlon 6400 of course runs like an Egg dropped on a hot pavement but as an example I fired up my system today and had to reboot in like 5 minutes just happend to check the temps and it was already at 34 C with a Tuniq Tower on that bad boy...
no point in powering it up just to see that it works for 5 minutes . If you break it you will just have to wait longer sending it back lol....
