Hello,

I just started OCing my E8400 yesterday. Right now my aftermarket cooler hasnt come yet so Im on stock cooling. I have a EVGA 750i FTW MoBO btw.

So yesterday I set my FSB to 1600 (400x4) and my memory(OCZ 1066) linked and synced. So it was running at DDR2 800 and i lowered the timings to 4-4-4-15 from 5-5-5-15. My question is how can i find out which setting is better? What software should I use to test CPU and Ram performance together? and finaly is there any advantage of running the memory synced with the CPU or is it better to have it just linked with a ratio of 3/2 so ram runs at 1066 instead of 800 when its synced.

Thanks

Sebastian

I think you will find that most benchmarks on your intel system will benefit the most by running your memory at the highest speed possible. At least mine does. I run 9x445 cpu , 1069mhz ram @ 5,5,5,15 and it does much better than the 1:1 ratio of 890 mhz @4,4,4,12.

Download Sisoft Sandra its free and gives you quite a few helpful benchmarks, the one you are looking for is the memory bandwidth benchmark. I would rather run my RAM at 1066 if it is rated to run at 1066! The only reason you would run your ram 'synced' at 800 is to get initial stability when trying to find an OC that works. If you find a setting that runs stable the next step usually is to push the ram up to the highest stable ratio.
