This 160gb Sata HD worked OK in PC "A" for a long time.

Removed it & put it in new PC "B".

I put an old PATA HD in the old PC "A".

Now I tried to put the 160gbSATA back into the old PC "A" but it does not boot. It keeps rebooting continously.

Somebody suggested that maybe something stack in AHCI mode. There is not such thing appearing in this BIOS (mobo bought in 2005) & SATA shows as enabled.

My new PC "B" has the options for AHCI, RAID and IDE / Compatability but only SATA was used.

Any ideas as to how to get it boot up in this SATA HD?

Thanx, ...............nick

You cannot simply move a hard drive with an OS installed from PC to PC.
It may work, but at best you are going to have all sorts of problems.
The OS has all the drivers installed for a certain board. When you move it to another board, now you have driver conficts. If you tried to boot in the new PC, and by chance it did make part way through the boot process, the OS may have started installing new drivers for the new board. Now when you go back to the old board you have a mess compounded on top of a mess.
Always do a fresh install of Windows when you put a drive on a new board.
You are guarenteed problems if you don't.

Coming back to this,

When this SATA is pluged in piggy-bag to the Pata , it will not boot either.

Is it because we can't have PATA & SATA HDs running together?

This Sata in question runs happily piggy-bak in my other PC with a 250gb Sata. ....nick
