Running AC97 onboard sound on my Abit AG-8 and came home to find no sound from the left speaker, Logitech Z3's, and no sound at all from my headphones. Tried speakers and headphones on portable DVD player and both work fine. Downloaded latest drivers and it didn't help. I assume that the onboard sound on the mobo is dying, tried wiggling the connection with no result. System is 4 years old and has worked like a charm since the day it was built. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try turning up the volume control in Windows and/or the driver.
Do yourself a favor and get a Creative Audigy or X-Fi. You won't believe the difference. Turn off onboard sound in the bios if you do get a sound card.
