I wonder if the members can offer some input. I have been trying to do this for a while, but have never come up with a good answer.

Here at home, I use fixed IP addressing (for a number of reasons). I want to "Pre-set" my wife's laptop so that when she is at, for example a meeting, she can hook into a network that uses DHCP addressing. Up to now, the fix has invariably been for her to find someone that manually goes in and changes the settings from fixed to DHCP. I would really like to set it up so this happens automatically so that the laptop just "finds" the correct setting under both circumstances.
Thanks in advance.

You should use DHCP but get a router that has reserved IP addresses.
