Hey guys, I would like to build a new system from scratch and I need some feeds. I will use this computer for gaming, multitasking and some amount of video and image editing. This new build would be my first build in 5 years so please feel free to give some helpful tips on building these newer systems.

I will not put any of my system build thoughts here for now because I really want to see what others recommend me. I would prefer to order the most decent build suggestion by no later then March.

Budget: $1850

Is it a good idea to wait for the Nvidia 9 series?
Is it a good idea to wait for the cheaper quad Penryn?

Thanks

The above spec is very good. What resolutions do you plan on playing? If you want to go above 1680x1050 then it may be worth getting an SLI board and going with a 2nd GT. Other than that, the above build gets an A+ in my book. :D

*Oh yeah, make sure you get a G0 stepping version of the Q6600. ClubIT will guarantee it, but newegg and others are hit or miss.

That looks quite decent but I heard that the Q6600 is technically becoming obsolete as the Q9450 is coming out, and is it right to buy GT in SLI when the 9 series are soon to be at our door steps?

edit: I think I will play at 1600x1200 resolution because it looks pretty standard to me in game.

Thanks

If you can wait, then I would definitely recommend you do so. Then you can check price vs. performance of the new parts and see if it fits your needs.

You are correct about the 9450. It has a quite a few things that will improve performance quite a bit over the Q6600.

As for the 9 series... I want to see what it can do before I recommend it to anyway. If it's a 7950 all over again, I'm going to be very sad. :(

*edit* Are you sure you don't mean 1680x1050? That's a pretty good resolution and a more standard 16:10 widescreen res. 1600x1200 is 13:10 and a little awkward, imho.

Well yes I mean, I waited about a year now I'm sure a month more can't kill me...so I guess I will wait for the Q9450. Does this mean I need a new motherboard to fit the Q9450?

I hope the 9 series comes out around the time of Q9450 so I can have my whole system up and running around march or so...

I honestly though that 1600x1200 was the norm haha...I guess I will have to readjust to 1680x1050.

And what is your outlook on DDR3 and PCIe2.0?

Thanks
