I dont know much about power supplies... I would like to spend $50-$80 and get something solid. Is the OCZ StealthXStream 500W a good choice?

System is going to be 4GB RAM, E8400 cpu, and 8800GTS 512MB gpu with 1 hard drive.

I might do some minor overclocking but nothing major.

Will this OCZ one be ok or is there something else in my price range I should be looking at?

Any advice would be great... hopefully someone here in the power supply forum has some good info. :)

I use to have a GameXstream 700w and was pleased with it but the stealthxstream doesn't seem to be as good from what I've heard. Have a look at this link:

The stealthxstream isn't on here but try to aim for something in Tier 2. All your other parts are very nice and high quality and there is really no point on skimping out on the PSU (I wouldn't recommend paying less than $100) and to be honest you may want a little more than 500w in a system like that. You may have to spend a bit more cash but its definitely worth it.

The stealthXtreme's(600/700, i assume the 500 is the same deal) are just gameXtremes with a slightly different set of voltage rectifiers(not as good but more then enough for the rated output), No led fan(some say its a bit louder) and less cables(think half as many sata and 1 PCI-E).

The power supplies are made by FSP, one of the largest OEM's in the world. I have never had any problems with FSP(or OCZ psu's). Physically the inside of this unit is the same as its bigger brothers(despite saying 2 vs 4 rails on the bigger ones it was all virtual rails anyway...), so i can not see any problems with it....

Another option you may be able to find on a budget is the Antec Earthwatts units. Your listed system is not going to be power hungry at all(my bet 200-220 idle and 250-280 load and thats over guessing a bit).

See my specs and power use.

Am getting a new one, probably either gigabyte or a power and cooling Silencer.
