Erasing Hard drives for resale, best free utility?

I have a few 40 gig HDD's sitting in my closet being useless. I figured now that I have the hang of selling things online i should get rid of them...

But before I do that I need to wipe these things clean. What proggies are out there that do a good job of cleaning these?

i did some googling and saw some people talking about DBAN, which seems like it would do the trick. Any advice? Thanks.

Data on these drives isnt uber important but I would like to make it difficult for your average IT guy to recover any of it. Also if there is a util that can scan the disc and check for issues at the same time that would be optimal. Id like to know my merchandise is in tip top shape before resale.

but who wants a USED 40 gig drive? How much you want for them? 5 bucks?

hey man they sell for like 20 bucks on amazon, better than having it sit in a land fill or my closet

all 6 of my HDD's i use now are 500 gigs so these are quite useless to me lol.

I'm sure there are some people out there making super low budget pcs.
