HD2900xt w/e8400@4.0ghz

HD2900xt w/e8400@4.0ghz. I think my gpu is bottlenecking my cpu am I right? I put the new cpu in and ran 3dmark06 and came up with maybe 300 more points than with my e6600@3.6ghz. My scores are in the high 12k's, nothing to really complain about but that's what I think is going on. Just wanted some input.

i think the only thing that changed is CPU part... so u wont see any gains well much gains...

With a Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz, and a slightly OC 2900XT I get just over 13000 on 3Dmark06. But honestly, 3Dmark06 favors multi-cores, and is not really a great representation of real game performance.

Nah, your cpu is only a minor 400mhz quicker.. and 3dmark06 scores favor more cores far far more than a slight clock increase

This looks like one of those sad cases where changing to a CPU that is faster in mhz ended up as a downgrade because the older, slower, CPU was really more efficient. The e8400 will be slightly better better for games, but not for much of anything else. Worse, as new games come out, they will be optimised for quad cores adn so will perfrom better with a slightly slower quad than a faster dual core.

There is nothing wrong with you card its just that you barely upgraded. You would have got a better increase just from OCing the card. What were you expecting out of 400mhz in 3dmark. Run pcmark that will show an increase.

Trust me the card is OC'ed! And since it was a newer style processor I thought even clock for clock it would run better than the e6600 since it is older architecture. I realize that it doesn't really matter, because I can play anything I want at 1600x1200 with everything maxed no problem just getting input that's all, now back to timeshift!

Like I said in the first post all I was looking for was input, so yours seems pointless to me and the only reason I upgraded was I had a relative who was willing to pay the upgrade difference for building them their own box with the old parts of mine.
