Hi group.
I have the following hardware/software (question follows):

  • motherboard: PC CHIPS A33G (V1.0)
  • processor: AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ Socket AM2 Dual-Core Processor
  • graphics adapter: SiS 761GX (onboard)
  • Screen: Acer AL2016W C (20" LCD)
  • OS: WinXP Pro
  • Display Adapter driver: downloaded from SiS website, version 6.14.10.3830 (10/3/2007)
  • Monitor driver: downloaded from Acer website, version 1.0.0.0 (8/4/2005)

The screen supports 1680x1050 max resolution, but when i set the resolution in Windows to that resolution, the screen appears to flicker at the top left corner, which is very irritating. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem? I obtained the latest drivers for the monitor and the graphics adapter (versions shown above), and it didn't really make a difference.

If i use this monitor on another computer that has a lower max resolution, (1440x900) it works fine.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you find a solution to this problem? Please pass it on ... my Acer notebook is doing the same thing.

Thanks

No solution. This onboard graphics adapter is crappy. Are you sure you have this same one on your laptop?

Since it is a desktop in my case, i just bought a new PCI graphics card that supports 1680x1050 and installed it, and that solved my problem.

Set the display to to 60 Hertz. The screen flickering will stop. You should have done this a year and half ago.

If your monitor supports higher than 60 Hertz. set it to the highest possible.

Time for a new graphics card sounds like. This is a desktop computer? If so make sure your cable from your video port (VGA) Im assuming is tight and screwed in on both ends. I had a flickering a while ago due to a lose DVI cable on the back of my monitor. set 60hz as the refresh rate too.
