XP to WIN 7 Upgrade

I just want to find out is there no way besides using a secondary hard drive to update your windows from xp to 7 or must i be left with no other alternative to format?

According to MS, " The Upgrade option is available in Windows 7 Setup for some computers running Windows Vista®, but it is not available for Windows XP."

You can however use the migration tool to make the move smoother. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7

Yeah but same time you have to reinstall everything wanted to avoid the pain of sitting there doing it all over again plus everything is all updated now its a clean swipe hope its worth it

If you have no issues with XP, no need to upgrade to 7. 7 is better, but probably not worth the hassle of re-installing everything unless you need to. Wait till you get a new PC or hard drive then do it.

If you don't want to reinstall everything, you could set up a dual boot system.

If you do the custom install with windows 7, it will move all your user data to c:\windows.old. Programs will have to be reinstalled.
