I'd expect the performance increase of the 9800GTX over the 8800 gtx should be sufficient, right now the X2 is just looking like a big mess. I figure the 9800 GTX will either be a big step up in performance like that 512 gts vs the old one... or it will be a mild increase like the 3870 vs the 2900 because of more processing going into IQ enhancements.

Yeah... I'm a little nervous about the GX2. It seems like the 3780x2 does what its advertised to do while being at a competitive price. But I just have a feeling that the 9800GX2 is going to be like the 7900GX2-7950GX2.

Well there's no absolute answer for these question. Unfortunately the only way to know is to wait until Nvidia release more information about the two card.

Then consumer report on ppl who took the chance and gives feedback regarding the card.

I plan on picking up the gx2 myself to give it a test run.
That and along with the dell 2408.

You just gotta wait till the product is release. I'm pretty sure they can run 1920x1200.

Lan_deRf: May I ask why you think the 3870x2 is a big mess? It offers great performance, even beating out two 3870's in CF. After all, it's basically crossfire on a single card, so they can interact within eachother on the same PCB to improve performance slightly. Also, ATI's driver development is far better than Nvidia's Crossfire also scales better than SLI.

If the 9800GTX still has the 378 bit interface, it should prove to be quite a performer for the cash. Think about it, the 8800 GTS 512 (g92) pretty much has no performance gains via OC'ing, it's hit the limit with the 256 bit interface. The full 378 bit interface will help things along. The 9800 GX2 will be interesting, but personally, ATI has better support/performance when it comes to multigpu setups. That doesn't mean though that ATI's solution is better though, Nvidia has the leading hand in terms of performance per single card, but ATI's crossfire scales better than SLI.

after the ...ugh mess of the 7950GTX2 or whatever they called it i would think twice before getting any card by nVid with 2 cards on 1..eh..board..or package (since it was 2 cards and looks like the 8900GTX2 or whatever is the same thing)..

However from what i heard the ATI 3870X2 is doing quite well and not having the problems that plauged the GTX2 cards...maybe nvid figured out and learned from their mistakes only time will tell..no 1 knows 2 **** about the performance or specs (only Leaks which may be 100% bull) of these cards so in all technicality we can't tell you performance or anything.

Well, the issue at hand with the 7950gx2 was drivers. We are now much more adopted to multi gpu setups. So it shouldn't be plagued with the issues that its predecessor had. But will have to wait and see considering they are dual PCB cards.

But yea, I'm dying to see CrossfireX benchmarks once the drivers are released, I really am excited to see how well the 3870x2 scales when 2 of them are coupled, but we'll have to wait till march before those drivers are available >_<. Honestly though, I love ATI for allowing crossfire for intel based chipsets. I really despise nvidia for forcing users to adopt their crappy intel chipsets. The fact that they had the audacity to re-release the 650/680 chipsets with a few new features as 750/780 is a major slap to consumers faces, can't believe that more people aren't insulted. If the chipsets were good, I wouldn't be angry, but considering the issues their 650/680 intel chipsets have had, it's a show stopper in my book.

No idea, haven't really paid attention much to their release dates, but they should be coming up within the next 2-3 months if memory serves me right.

I was talking about the 9800gtx2, I assumed he was too. Personally I don't think the ati x2 is a great idea either, but they pulled it off a lot better than nvidia. I think after sapphire releases their factory overclocked, smaller profile, two 6 pin version of the 3870x2 it will be a more reasonable purchase.... but all and all I'd rather have a single gpu card that drew less power and gave the same perf, like an ultra.... just for less money. Which is what I'm hoping the 9800 GTX will be like.
