My first upgrade since 2004. This pc will be use mainly for gaming, and programming. I need help with the motherboard. I'm planning getting Nvidia 9800x2 over 8800gt sli, but im really confuse here. Do I need a 780i motherboard to run 9800x2 in sli in future, or the XFX 680i will do fine to run two 9800x2 in sli? if not, then ill go 8800gt sli, I cant spend over $200 on motherboard. I will be using some of my current pc hardware to save money (case, Sound card, Watercooler, hard drive, 28'' Lcd monitor, dvd-rw, ddr2 6400 Lat:4).Im not planning going quad core, really dont do any video encoding, and ill upgrade cpu in about a year. I know some will recommend a higher power supply, but my budget is very limited, in fact, my friend pc runs 8800gt sli with this power supply.

Corsair VX 550W Power Supply$89.84
XFX MB-N680-ILT9 Motherboard$165.12
ntel E8400 Dual Core Processor $230.56
XFX GeForce 8800 GT Video Card 512mb $249.44
XFX GeForce 8800 GT Video Card 512mb $249.44

Total w/tax/shipping $984

Your PS is fine. Its just that motherboard isn't really going to support anything when the new chips come out. Nice choice on the CPU i was disappointed cause i bought the e6750 like a week before e8400 came out, im pretty sure your going to have to flash the bios since the CPU is new. If you don't want to do it get the e6750 its a good chip.

to be fair, i don't thin any mobos will support anything once nehalem comes out - apparently they're changing socket... so that doesn't really make a difference
