CD drives disappear in XP x64

Forum Storage : CD/DVD Drives CD drives disappear in XP x64

CD-R and DVD-R have disappeared in XP x64. The bios sees them, XP pro 32 bit sees them (dual boot) and device manager sees them but is unable to use them. File explorer doesn't see them.

Have tried reinstalling the drivers and even pointed windows to the location. I tried rolling back the drivers. I went to admin tools to assign them a drive name and admin didn't see them.

The drives are fully functional in XP pro x86.

This happened before and I reinstalled XP x64 to fix the problem and it worked.

The problem happened after I was searching thru some older hard drives using a USB harddrive enclosure. I always "unplugged" the USB device before turning off the drive enclosure.

System is:
Phenom II 920
Biostar TA 770 AM+
4 gigs Kingston 1066 ram
computer is used as a professional recording studio

Thanks for the help.
