I am having some issues with my new 8800GT, I had a 7900GT and am replacing (well, was hoping to) with this 8800GT. I cna load windows and run firefox, basically use windows fine. When I go to do anything 3D, it hangs on a black screen with an hourglass (the mouse pointer) which I can move still. I can't ctrl alt del out of it, or alt tab, I have to reset the comp.

I can run 3d apps fine with my 7900GT, my psu is ok (i've checked), and overheating isnt an issue. I have used drivercleaner or w/e, installed a few dif kinds of drivers. I have also come across problems using certain programs and drivers due to XP x64 incompatible.

I would really like to use this card, I have even replaced the card at the store I bought it from, so I am pretty sure its not the card, there must but a driver/bios combo that makes these components work.

Any help?

Intel D 805, 2gb kingston ram, P5ND2-SLI, soundblaster X-FI, windows XP x64
the 800GT is an ASUS, and the mobo is as well

You state your psu is ok, but is it really? Make/Model?

its a silverstone zues, dont have the model off hand but I checked the amps on the rails, and the listed specs are ok, plus I checked in a program in windows as well as bios for the voltages.

I also just figured, since I had problems with a psu before, that if it was the psu it would attempt to start and then reset the comp by itself. I have to manually reset the computer, which was different from before when I had psu issues.

silvertone zeus get's an A OK. Good psu's... Make sure that you have a decent 5-8 amps above the recommended cards amperages needed to be safe....Cause it does indeed sound like a power supply issue although the lowest zeus model should handle that rig no problem, what is the wattage/amperage? It does indeed sound like the card is not getting enough juice, and fails to launch 3d scenarios.

I don't happen to have an 8800 GT, but have you plugged in all the power connectors? If it has two connections, make sure you plug them all in. It does sound odd considering the steps you've taken, all correct, used driver cleaner pro via safemode? Made sure you nabbed the 64bit drivers from nvidia's site?

all the connections are in, I will get those specs for you on the psu, but in the meantime, I read somewhere about the soundblaster X-FI having problems working along side the the 8800GT? has anyone heard anything about that?

First for me, but considering it sounds quite particular, I wouldn't know. Heck, I'm on a 3.2 prescott....I just dream of a beautiful rigs, so I end up researching the crap out of everything even though I can't afford anything...LOL (broke =(....).

Those specs would help, have you tried running it in another computer? That would be the quickest way to find out if it's a dud. If it works perfectly in another rig, than it's going to pretty much be your PSU...If it's old and dated, psu's due tend to degrade and lose some of their output capability. I'm considering that as an option. But your best bet would be to run it in another rig.

Have you ran driver cleaner via safemode? You mentioned you ran it, but not under safe mode or normal boot. Are you sure you nabbed the 64 bit drivers? That is EXTREMELY important...

havent tried running it on another computer (dont have one that will support it)

the silverstone is ST52F, 16 and 15 amps on the 12V, 45 amps on the 5V, and 40 on the 3.3V

Which does the PCI-E line run off of? it has its own 6 pin connector, maybe that doesnt have enough, and I should try using a 4pin to 6pin adapter?

sorry for late response, I have been working 13's last few days.

update, did another driver clean in safety mode, and tried a beta driver, nothing.

also tried switching my power connections to see if it was a bad line.

Anyone know if there is an update for either the mobo or the card that will work? I am having lots of trouble due to x64, which I am beginning to think was a mistake as well.

How old is your psu? Capacitor aging subtract 10-15% per year of use
old review (3years ago) of psu
http://www.techimo.com/articles/i230.html
your cpu uses alot of juice (95w)
7900GT = 48w
8800GT = 78w

Maybe you should consider a new psu?

This should be sufficient? And for maybe a future upgrade to a new mobo/cpu

Yes
600w @ 44amps for $98
But if you can wait for the rebate and pay $2 more
700w @ 50amps for $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817341002
Same brand, 100 more watts, 6 more amps for $2

I would wait, but I know its not your fault i didnt mention it, I am in Canada, and I don't think newegg ships here? The dollar is close enough to par to compare the prices so you are right in comparing the two. I will look around here for that one to see if its on as well.

K i upgraded to the OCZ one listed, and the problem is persisting. There was no difference between the two, RMA at asus is ignoring me, as is Nvidia :(
