I have an old HDD (80 gig) that I reformatted a year or two ago and put in storage. Now Im planning on using it to build a basic computer for a friend who is in need. This old HDD was my primary, and had various banking details/accounting records etc on it. Is there any way to use something like the free "eraser" program to more securely delete the old files that were stored on it? I have no reason to think this person would try to access this data but I suppose its better to be safe than sorry.

On a side note... is there a way to more securely "erase" programs or files that have already been sent to the recycle bin and emptied?

Thanks in advance
