EVGA 8800 GTS G92: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814130312

Help me decide which one to get. Im a on slight budget. My PC is $900 right now with the 8600 GT XXX in there and im running a Ultra X-Infinity 600W PSU. So i was wondering, what should i get it? I dont plan to play crysis but the 8800 GTS G92 gives a free copy of it but, it says white supplies last. Im playing COD4 though for sure.

I read the XFX 8800 GT XXX reviews and it says its runs hot. But then i read the EVGA 8800 GT Superclocked and i didint see 1 complaint about how hot it is. Whats wrong?

you shouldnt really need to upgrade your vid card really. at least wait till next generation cards come out. going from one gen to the same wouldnt be financially smart. 8800gt tho would be my suggestion if you really need one.

makotech is making a good point. If you can wait a little longer, you will be able to get a much better video card.

If you really need one right now, make sure you stay away from the older 8800GTS, which is the third like you provided. Also stay away from the 8600GT and GTS. My recommendation is the 8800GTS 512MB G92, the extra money is well worth the better cooling.

Just be careful you have all the wires hooked up to HSF and video card mostly. Everything is self explanatory except for where to put the wires on the mobo, you will need to look in the manual for that. After you double check everything fire it up like you said.

Also, avoid the 8600 GTS and anything worse, I have one and it is definately good for todays games it is unusable. In crysis (medium settings, yuck) I get about 15 fps average so yeah you dont want it. It definately works for COD4 and Unreal Engine 3 games but get that G92 GTS or whatever the 9 series brings.

ooo i see. im probably gonna get the EVGA 8800 GTS 512 G92 since it runs cooler, good, cooler, and comes with crysis. and i dont think imgetting the 9 series video cards because im on a budget right now...

btw, when you SLI 2 video cards that are 450 watt each, do i need to get a 900watt PSU?

No video cards take 450 watts each. Avoid SLI if you are on a budget at all, dont even bother looking into it. SLI is to be avoided except for an enthusiest machine. Two low end cards is not > than one high end card.

By the way, I dont understand your logic. If both cards took 450 watts and your PSU is 900 watts then what would power your CPU, drives, fans, motherboard, ram etc?

oh... then how much watts would a evga 8800 gts 512 g92 take then??? and i was using that as a example, i know you need power for other parts in your PC. im probably getting the evga 8800 gts 512 g92 with crysis :)

According to the tiered PSU chart these forums link to you have a quality power supply so you should be able to run a modest system off of it with no problem. Any processor, any amount of ram, a few drives dont worry.

If the price doesnt bother you then yeah get the GTS. There are basically two faster cards out and one of those is the GTX which is better in some areas and worse in others. The GTX however should not even be considered at this point because it is very fast, but still about $100-$150 more than the GTS which puts it in the same price range as the 3870x2. That ATI card is the fastest on the market now (of course it depends on how well the game scales in Crossfire).

If you got the money you will love the GTS, I just ordered one tonight myself. The eVGA one without Crysis
