How to solve problem in a missing search companion in windows xp sp2

Hello, i do have a problem in my computer (microsoft windows xp service pack 2) wherein my search option is not functioning. whenever i click on the "Search" button in start menu there is always a dialogue box which says:
"a file that is required to run search companion cannot be found. you may need to run setup."
