How to solve problem in a missing search companion in windows xp sp2

Hello, i do have a problem in my computer (microsoft windows xp service pack 2) wherein my search option is not functioning. whenever i click on the "Search" button in start menu there is always a dialogue box which says:

"a file that is required to run search companion cannot be found. you may need to run setup."

Head over to MS web page and download SP3, after that is installed, go to Windows Update and get all the latest patches. Try search again after that.
