Toshiba External hard drive Ticking Noise

Forum Storage : Hard Drives Toshiba External hard drive Ticking Noise

Hi,

I have had a Toshiba External HD for about 2 years now and all of a sudden when I power up the device it is making a ticking noise (with the front lights of the HD going red/blue in sync with the noise).

I cannot hear the drive moving inside, nor has it ever made any strange sounds before.

Needless to say Vista does not recognise the drive at all.

I am just hoping I have not lost everything. Can anyone help?

I have seen this thread here (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-246255_14_0.html) and I am hoping it is a different case.
