the MAX i can spend for this computer is 3000$ but id like to keep it around $2500 so if you have any suggestions let me know, i wanted to save the graphics for last and make sure every thing else is premium first

also i was worried about the HD connections, im not sure if that 15k rpm HD will hook up with that mobo, the 2 big questions i had was, if there was a better high rpm HD that will work with that mobo 100% and what would be a good heat sink would be for the processor so i thought id ask you guys, thanks in adv

I'm too lazy to click 8 links just to see what you're buying...

Edit: OK, I clicked two at random and they don't match. You can't use a SCSI disk with that mobo unless you also buy a SCSI controller card. Try a WD Raptor if you want.

Edit 2: OK, I was curious and I clicked the links.

ASUS CROSSHAIR AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI -- good choice, you can add a second GTX later, both run at x16

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ - that's the fastest AMD available, apart from quads. Good choice if this is a gaming machine, games don't like quads that much.

EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX (for only $420) - very nice deal. Get two.

WD7500AAKS is my favorite disk. Get two of them and forget the SCSI stuff (and Raptors).

Cooler Master Stacker is a great case. CoolerMaster PSUs are not as good though.
I'd buy the case separately:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811119103
and add a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W ($150, it's a great deal).
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817341011
Don't worry that it says Crossfire Edition, it just means it has additional connectors for ATI. It will do 8800GTX SLI.

RAM: that one is out of stock and expensive. Get this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231122
G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800, $95

Cooler: I'd recommend the Zerotherm Nirvana. Best AM2 cooler I know.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835887011

DVD burner: SH-S203N.

Looks decent enough you might be better of with a Intel CPU and Mobo because overall they are all way faster then AMD's i say spend a lil more on CPU and mobo. (stay away from the striker lol)

Yeah, the E8400 would beat the X2 6400+, in theory, especially after overclocking. In practice, games are limited by the video card so either CPU is plenty. If he gets an Intel mobo (P35 or X38) he can't do SLI, and with that budget it would be a shame not to. If you're thinking 780i and E8400, that's better avoided for now, too many glitches.

I was thinking maybe a GA-X38-DS4/E8400 combo and two HD 3870X2 cards, that's also a great combo, but that deal for the eVGA 8800GTX is just too good. :) I paid a LOT more for my BFG 8800 GTX, and I didn't even get a step-up program.

My new build is one month old and running great. I have the same case and PSU you speced and highly recommend it. I have a minor variient of the same video card, 2 evga 8800 gtx's in SLI (came with Crysis), also a good deal that will please you. The rest of your picks seem ok but are not my cup of tea. Good luck!

OK, for a single-card setup, here's a decent list: 520HX, GA-P35-DS4 or aBit IP35Pro, E8400, 8800GTX.

I think we need more info to settle the usual question, E8400 vs Q6600. ketsueki, are you playing Flight Simulator X or doing video editing or using databases or Photoshop? If yes, Q6600 is better. If not, most likely E8400.

^^ agreed

But I would still get a nice PSU on that budget. I have the 520 and its great so I highly recommend the 620HX

also double checking here all i need to make this work is a heat sink and a cd drive correct? and that Zerotherm Nirvana will work correct?

All right. E8400 it is, it's better than Q6600 for games.

The 520HX or 620HX will be fine for that build. With the 620HX you pay more but have more room for adding disks or for replacing the video card a couple of years from now.

CD Drive: get a DVD burner SH-S203N.

The Nirvana will work on the E8400, no problems there.

Personally I don't think the E8400 is at that great of a price point. I'd go with a 5000+ BE on Newegg for 99.99 and grab 2 8800GTs and put them in SLI. You'll be much happier with the result.
