Please I need help. I am new to overclocking and have problems with 2,8Ghz stable with my e4400 rev. M0 my goal is to reach 3,2. Any help is very appriciated (I am newbie to OC)
you dont need ddr2 1066 ram it just totally waste of money. since the E4400 got 10x multiplier you dont need ultra high speed ram to get high OC. just get some CL4 DDr2-800 ram and it will do the job. lower the multiplier to 9X and max the FSB along with 1:1 ram ratio.
the E4400 will be max out anyway its a physical core limit nothing to do with mobo or ram. its known as a FSB wall. so maybe 8x multiplier will get you better result.
if you swap to a E7200 DDR2-800 will still do the trick. but E8200 in the other hand needs 1066 DDR2 and a very overclockable mobo. what mobo you have?
yeah it should do the job just fine. as you can up the voltage to 2.2V+ and loosen the timing to CL5 and you should(may not) get DDR 1000+ but at least i think you will get 950mhz. which equal to 450FSB.
the really bad ting about FSB strap is when you say like OC a 1066FSB processor to about 1600+ the memory performance will suddenly drop and because the mobo think you have select the wrong fsb and hence work in a "safe mode".
but what it does is the NB have its own latency and clock speed according to CPU FSB. so basically the higher the FSB is the lower timing it would be at the NB to maintain stability.
if you open memset you should see a timing with the title "PERFORMANCE LEVEL" that equivalent to the NB timing(actually its not but linked)
