I was wondering if the 8800gt is a better card than the 3870 seeing that the benchmarks show a better score for the 8800 gt than the 3870 but it is not as big of a difference. So I am wondering which card would you guys recommend for the price/performace for games.
thanks

8800gt... If you can spring for the GTS do that. What can you afford? that is the real question.

If you get the 3870 get the one that blows the air out the back not the cheapo coolers. Then again if you do that the 8800GT looks more apealing, and if you have a few extra bucks spring for the 8800gts. You get what you pay for, it is just up to you to determine what you want to pay. What is your range?

I think you will be happiest with either 8800gt. XFX and eVGA are my choice brands. They are pretty comparable in every way

Alpha Dogs suck....... but I have one anyways. haha :sol:

Lately I've seen some of the 8800GT's for less than many of the 3870's.

The 3570's are $232 and the new 8800GTS (G92) are $258 online....both with 512 of ram.

The new 8800GTS (G92) can do about what a 8800GTX does and with alot less power. The 2nd day I had mine I ran just 3 tests with 3dMark06 (build 110 all tests engaged).
Stock gave me a score of 10,933 on the first run. The 3rd run I used nTune to OC it to just 758/1088 with a score of 11,895.

Never bothered to try further but it seems like it still has alot more to give and -not- get warmer over stock.
I read of people going over 800Mhz on the GPU.
For a card with a lifetime warrenty that covers everything other than you flashing the Rom or beating it to death with a hammer I am happy and it beat the hell out of my two year old 7900GT's that I use in the 7 systems listed in my profile.

The EVGA 8800GTS(G92) 512 is on Newegg for $259.99 after $30 MIR. I love my 8800GT's but the GTS for $20 more is worth it.

i would agree on that. the GTS run quieter, n have better cooling. but again, 20 dollers in my country is alot. :)
