Hi

I'm soon to invest in a new PC, my first one by the way. I do hower have some questions about cases. I want a fairly quiet pc for gaming and have two alternatives.

Antec sonata III with 500watts

or

Nexus Caterpillar ATX Miditower With 620w power suplie and sound muffeling "carpets" inside.

The antec sonata I've only heard good about but thera are 2 things with the Nexus that might be a problem.

1) The nexus lacks a dust filter at the airintake, does that mean the computer will be filled with dust or is the dustfilter not that inportant?

2)It lacks silicone "dotts" onder the harddrives. Is that a big issue when it comes to the noiselevel of the computer? Does the hard drive work all the time when gaming for instance?

Thanks for the answers and please excuse my spelling as I'm from sweden and this is School english.

Neither of those points will make a large difference in the over all sound or lack of sound in the cases. Also Antec is generally a better brand than Nexus, but both cases look about the same.

I think that the best quiet case is the Antec SOLO. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129018
It is made of heavy gauge steel.
The panels have sound deadening insulation.
The front intakes are baffled.
HDD mounts have silicone bushings, or you can use rubber suspension.
Intake fans have washable filters.

You can get the same case with a 500w earthwats psu known as the Antec Sonata designer 500 . http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129036
Don't be put off by the white color. I built one and it is very classy looking.

You can also get the SOLO case with a neopower 550 watt psu, known as the Antec Sonata plus 550. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129037

For good info on quiet computing, go to www.silentpcreview.com.

The english in your post is very good; much better than my Swedish.

---good luck---

The best thing to do really is find a sturdy case, replace the fans with a good compromise of noise-to-airflow fans, and get some noise dampeners if you want to make sure nothing else is making noise. They make rubber spacers for pretty much every part to make sure it doesn't vibrate and the only noise you get is air flowing through your case :)

My comp is really noisy. I have 2 86CFM 120mm intake fans, a 110CFM 120mm CPU fan (on a TT Big Typhoon HS), and 110CFM 120mm exhaust fan, as well as 2 80mm exhaust fans on back and top, not to mention the video card fan, 120mm PSU fan, and 80mm PSU exhaust fan.

But guess what...it runs cool! I live with my grandparents and old people get cold really easily, so they keep the temp around 78F. My room is always warmer than that, but with an E6600 @ 3GHz (early stepping) I'm pushing 48C after 8 hours of Prime95!
