Hey guys

Let me know what you think:

AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+ @ 2.56 ghz
2 GB DDR2 @ 852 mhz
ATI Radeon HD 2900 PRO 512 mb 512-bit GDDR3
ATI Crossfire 480x motherboard
Cooler Master Centurion 534 case
WD 160 gb hdd
Logisys 575 watt dual PCI-E PSU

Logisys is on tier-5 ("Do not buy" ) of the PSU listing at http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiere [...] gs?t=anon.
Some people on the forumz have been critical lately of references to this list. While any single source deserves a grain of salt, I am one of those who in past years had or witnessed at least three systems damaged when cheap PSUs gave up the ghost. I don't think I've ever been an advocate of huge PSUs, but quality is essential. Choose one from tier-3 or better.

Drop the PSU!!!! That is cr@p. get a top tire PSU listed here:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forum [...] p?t=108088
but if on a budget get that PSU but upgrade ASAP. I recomend the Corsair 450VX/550VX/520HX depending on your budget. You might be better off with a P35-DS3x and a E21xx esp. if you plan to OC.

My benchmarks on the E2180 @ 3.2Ghz:

I've also witnessed some shoddy PSU's fail. I believe 4 total. Two had failing capacitors, among other things. The other briefly caught fire and then failed to work. (The room smelt like o-zone or something - I don't know how else to describe it) The final one created an open flame that melted some of the PCB before it went out.

Cheap PSU = bad.

Alright. Now I have worked out:

AMD Opteron 1210 @ 3.2 ghz
2x1 gb DDR2 800
ATI Radeon HD2600 XT
Gigabyte AMD 770 DS3 All solid capacitor AM2+ motherboard
Cooler Master Centurion 5 case
Thermaltake Purepower 500w PSU
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro
WD 160 gb 8mb cache hdd

How will the overclocked Opty perform? I thought the 2x1mb L2 cache would be nice, but I could be wrong... Maybe I am just an AMD/ATI fan :). But I would rather buy the Opty than the E2160 if the performance diff. is negligible
