Help with building my first desktop.

I have an ASUS P5k-e/Wifi-ap motherboard and when I turn the system on, I get one short beep and all the fans spin briefly and then turns off.

What is wrong?

Thanks

Motherboard: ASUS P5k-E
Memory: Corsair XMS2 2x2GB
2 x SATA HDD
2 x IDE HDD
Video Card: HIS 3850 Turbox
Case: Sonata III
Power Supply: Anitec PS that comes with the Sonata III
CPU: Intel E6750

The single short beep means that the POST did not detect any problems with the motherboard, memory, or video interface. And since the POST DID run, the CPU is probably OK.

I suspect the PSU is either shutting down under load or there is soming wrong with it

Try swapping out the PSU.

Make sure the HSF is seated properly. If none of the above workz, disassemble including taking the mobo out. Make sure you have the precise number of stand offs and test each component after you install it. Keep the mobo on a cardboard box, e.g., the box it came in, when assembling/testing
