I just purchased a Sony KDF-42WE655 Grand Wega and I am very happy with the
picture, just wish that it was a little smaller in the back so that I could
fit it in a tighter space. I looked at the link below and found that this is
exactly what the new Grand WEGAs are about. They are better looking than
mine because of the frame around the screen. Besides the aesthetics' and the
smaller size, have they made any technical changes that would make it
worthwhile for me to wait till next month? What I would really like is the
ability to have two-way communication for the digital cable card (so that I
can get menus and pay-per view when the cable company offers those two-way
cards.) I would really appreciate any info or advice about these new Sony
models.

Thanks a million for the help,

---A High-Def Newbie

They claim something called a "dynamic iris" which is supposed to cut down
on the amount of light on dark scenes to improve the quality of blacks. I've
seen a couple of comments on AVS Forum and CNET that it really works, so I'm
eager to see for myself.

Are there any insiders out there who have information about what the
new price points will be for the A10/A20 lines? I want to get the
KF42WE655 42" Grand Wega right now, but some of the features on the A10
line sound like they'll become more and more important as time goes on
(e.g. 720x1280 LCD panels instead of 788x1388 LCD panels for better up
and down conversion, VGA input, bottom speakers, and they should have
better black levels.)

And I hate these "summer" or "2nd quarter" release dates. I have an
opportunity to get a better deal on the KF42WE655 but it will expire in
less than a week. I don't want to wait and get burned. So when the
hell are they actually coming out? Specifically the 42" model?

Answering my own questions:

After looking around a bit I found an article at
http://news.sel.sony.com/pressrelease/5980 that includes:

"Shipping now, the KDF-E60A20 is available for about $3,500 and the
KDF-E55A20 for about $3,000. In July, the KDF-E50A10 and the KDF-E4210
will be available for about $2,800 and $2,300, respectfully."

It also indicates: "Sony's new Grand WEGA HD models -- the KDF-E60A20
(60-inch), KDF-E55A20 (55-inch), and KDF-E50A10 (50-inch) -- begin
shipping this week. Additionally, the KDF-E42A10 (42-inch) model will
ship in late July." This is the one that I want, but I don't think I'm
going to wait until the end of July. At $1999 the KDF-42WE655 is
already too expensive for me, but I'll be getting a 10% discount on it,
so that's more in my ballpark. The A20 will be at least 2 or 3 hundred
dollars more than the base WE655, so I'd have to wait a month AND spend
$500 more. Hopefully the arrival of the new KDF-E50A10 will push the
price down on the older model and I can get a price match discount as
well later down the line.
