Im planning to buy that mobo but i want to know all about the stability issues regarding ENERGY saving mobo from gigbyte.
I will be paring it with E2160 which i would OC to 3 ghz by changing FSB to 333 and multiplier of 9 so that is 2.997 ghz to be exact..
it will also carry a 8800GT and 4 gb pf ram maybe 800 only (i think generic only... no more budget...)
i will only be playing for about 3 hours, and all components are expected to be stable in OC during that time... most of the time, PC will be used for seeding and leeching, and that is where i expect the energy saving mechanism will work, so far i have only heard malfunction regarding this issue, like a loop of restarting, random rebooting, etc....
I really want this board if the OC capability is great and if i will not be facing any problems regarding the energy saving program... Thanks in advance for your replies... happy easter...
The loop and restarting bug from post has been a known issue since the start of the platform of this motherboard and other P35 motherboards (I've also seen this bug on Asus and Abit boards as well). This was a huge problem on the first revision of the board (about July of 2007), but has gotten less and less of a problem on the newer revisions. The board itself hasnt changed too much since then and now with the enception of the energy saving mode on the board, that will only be the only difference, and the elimination of the parrallel and serial ports off the board and addition of more usb ports on the back. Other than that not a bad board at the price its at.
Ive heard people saying that when they turn on the dynamic energy program after 2 mins their computer just shut off. and what they need to do is to unplug tge cimputer from the wall socket wait for 12 sec then plug, boot and turn on the computer again. Is these thing really happening with this board?
I've gone through two Gigabyte EP35-DS3R in the last two weeks on an upgrade build. The first, wouldn't boot at all no matter what I did. I sent it back for replacement. On the replacement, the CPU fan wouldn't spin, even though it did on the 1st mobo. I disabled the bios feature that shuts the fan off when cool and it still didn't spin. It also wouldn't work with RAM in anything but the 1st slot.
Lots of people complain that the board is either DOA or dies in a couple of months. Perhaps Gigabyte is having quality control issues I'd stay away from it.
