I was planning on going with the 780i with 4 gigs of DDR2 ram. until the 790i came out about a week ago. Now do you think I should go with the 790i and 2 gigs of DDR3 ram. Cause DDR3 ram is so darned expensive I'd have to cut back on the amount of sticks I'd be using. Also what do you think the difference between 2 gigs and 4 gigs would really be. And if its not a big deal now would it be safe to go with 2 gigs with either option DDR3 or DDR2. And if there is a giant difference would the higher clock speeds of DDR3 with 2 gigs make up for what it would lose when compared to DDR2.

Thanks a crapload for answering this question.

(PS I know about the 3 gig recognition so I'm going with vista 64bit) :)

ddr3 ram would be faster and more future proof, but it is more expensive. the difference between 2 and 4 gb isnt anything that'll cripple your system but there is a difference, you should be just fine with 2gb tho, are you on do or vista?

the money you save by going DDR2 at this point would allow you to change platform to DDR3 in the "future".

DDR3 is just too expensive right now to even bother with.
