I've built a system with Q6600, GForce 8800 GT, 2 GB Ram, and 2 sata HDDs,
Antec trio 650 W Power source and antec 900 case.
The lights and fan go on, but the monitor says "no signal". what could be the cause??
I have inserted the VGA into a proper slot, but still the monitor gives this error. what could be the cause??
this is tht first time I've installled SATA disks - might it be that there is a problem there??

so by the sound of things your computer doesn't post. did it ever turn on? does it beep? and can you list what mobo and ram you have. and first do check all the cables and connections and make sure that they are attached.

to check if the hard drives are at fault, simply dsconnect them from the mobo. then if the computer still doens't post you at least know to look elsewhere for the problem, whch could be ram, gpu, psu, cpu or mobo. aldo disconnect any other device that you have, for example tv tuners, usb printers etc. try testing at little parts as you can to narrow it down. . just try to get a successful POST.

I had no post at all.

hmm. I'm not sure, but I think I haven't connected any power connector for the PCIe (the VGA, right??) where could that be??

also, I have attached my old ide DVD-writer, could that be the problem??

I just wondered where the 6 pin would go!! :) Now I see what the problem must have been... I'll try it when I'm back home in the evening! thanks a lot.
