Thanks up front for your time.

My motherboard recently fried (Asus A8N-SLI) and I would like everyone's opinion on what I'm replacing it with.
The big question is DDR2 or DDR3, but I also want to be ready for the future when the new pynrins (I hope I spelled that right) come out, or other intel CPU's. Hopefully this chipset/socket will remain supported.

To be honest to save cash I chose the motherboard below DDR2 due to the high price of DDR3. Although unless someone can advise me, I'm open to suggestions.

Once again thanks for any advice! below is what I am looking at purchasing now.

ASUS P5E X38 motherboard. <-Supports only DDR2 per their specs.
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale core
G.SKILL 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800 PC2-6400 Timing: 5-5-5-15.

The parts im moving over to the new machine will be the following:

BFG OC GeForce 8800 GTS 720MB
WD Rator 74gb, WD 200gb
Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling Turbo Power 512 watt-620 watt max.
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Akhilles,

Thanks a ton for the information! The egg is on my face concerning penryn and I appreciate you setting me straight on that. Perhaps i was thinking nehelam, but that will require a whole new socket (I could be wrong.) And besides, this build should last me awhile.

Once again thanks for the info! ;)
