I've been looking around trying to figure out how to get my striker extreme to work with my wolfdale (even though the damn box said it was 45nm read!) but I'm kind of running out of ideas. Supposedly there is a beta bios 1202 that will bring in the support but that confuses me since there is already a regular 1500 bios out. Also, none of the updated bios on asus's website say anything about wolfdale.

Anybody know more?

*edit* link went down

Anyways, try the 1202 BIOS or check the notes on the 1500 BIOS to see what they support. (This is another reason I hate Nvidia chipsets)

I have to admit installing a new bios scares the crap out of me. Not to mention 1202 which is a beta bios...

What kind of risk am I really looking at here?

Well, I personally wouldn't install a beta BIOS, but on Asus boards I've owned its REALLY easy. The update is done right in Windows, takes like 30 seconds and a reboot - a real snap. The only time I ever had a BIOS update go horribly wrong was on an old Socket A Abit board at my father's farm - and that was only because we had a nice brownout mid-update. Oo-fa! Hadda RMA that one.

No I haven't tried the 1500 yet but nothing anywhere in any of the non beta bios say anything about support for wolfdale.

Edit: 1401 is the latest version, my mistake.

You really should avoid the widows Bios update if possible.
Asus IN-Windows bios flash is pretty slick, but it is known to have issues which are harder to fix then simply doing the flash properly in the first place.

I've found some 1501, 1502 and maybe even a 1503 version of the bios. But they are all ALPHA! I might break down and try one because I really want my cpu to work

1401 is the lastest out. Not sure where you are getting 1202 from. Wolfdale has been supported before 1401 but there are issues with Yorkfields on the 680i chipset.

Below is the list of supported processors on various Nvidia chipsets. When I talked to Nvidia in December they said a bios update for 45nm was comming out soon. I have not tried any Woldale processors but I have read that if you want to use Yorkfield/Nvidia then you need to buy 780i but that Wolfdale was supported on 680i. The board I am running has 1305 on it and I plan to upgrade to a new processor in a few months. It should not hurt to upgrade the bios to 1401 but do it through dos.....Windows flash update does not work.

Well I dug around and the update that is going to enable all the Wolfdale is the 1500 line. I got a copy of 1502 from the tech support guys at asus and I'm going to flash it tonight. The only problem is that I have no idea how...

Details, right?

Boot off of a floppy with the "Phoenix Award BIOS flash tool version 1.31 " on the floppy. Also have the bios file on that same floppy. Then just run the flash tool and follow instructions. Done it many times. Good luck.

Striker extreme supports flashing from USB memory stick or file on hard drive. Asus tech support have been sending the 150x series Bios to users, it resolves support for SLI and wolfdale ships. There are reports that the chipset may not support the Quads but I have seen an example of it working so there is hope. Personally the 8 multiplier on the quads is a put off for high overclocks :bounce:
