I basically want to save as much $$ as possible, however choose a system that will last as long as possible. I guess that is most peoples criteria. This is for gaming. I have never OC'd but would love to start. Since I dont deal with computer components on any regular basis, I hoped the wisdom of this forum could make sure Im not about to buy known bad products or duds.

I started with the GPU and built around that. As it stands now the cost for this set up is $850 not including shipping and not including 60$ mail in rebates.

A few concerns of mine:

-How far off is DDR3 going to become relatively standard and should I bother with buying compatible ddr3 mobo at this time or save the money now and worry about that later?

-Processor choice here looks like a good value, but should I upgrade a notch or 2 for the few extra bucks?

-My intentions are to buy the most efficient (performance) components that are compatible with each other

-PSU looks to be generic and might be problematic. Thoughts?

Note on CPU, the E8400 is out and a lot faster for $50 more. Its highly overclockable and very nice :)

On mobo, seems a bit expensive not a fan of the whole DDR2/3 combo it seems unnecessary since the speed difference isn't enough to justify it for now;

Maybe something along these lines;

Case/PSU combo. Stay away!!! The PSU is whats pushing the power behind your whole system and keeping it stable you'll want a decent PSU to keep your system stable 10% of your budget should account for PSU (on average)
