I'm planning on upgrading from a Celeron D (2.8ghz) to an E2160 sometime in the near future, what i want to know is if will see a huge increase in performance, or just a decent amount.

System specs:

Celeron d @ 2.8
1.5g DDR400 RAM
AGP X1650 Turbo Edition

I do plan on overclocking, so you can take that into account :)

Bearing in mind the E2160 is faster than any Pentium 4 and even the higher MHz ones then you will see an improvement.

You should see a double fold performance, if not more.....

I would recommend going for a E6400 series if your budget can stretch that far then you will see a massive leap.....

Failing that for a little more a E2180 is worth the purchase..

Get at least 2GB of ram as XP flies with 2GB

you can't use the old ddr memory and the AGP video card any more. so you will buld everything from ground up. you will see the huge difference.

You will see a very big increase in performance, especially if you overclock. But I see your running on an old motherboard that wont support the E2160 (DDR, AGP) You will need to get a new motherboard, so Not only will that CPU be about 2 to 3 times faster, but the RAM will be significantly faster (DDR to DDR2) and the GPU will also increase quite a bit (AGP to PCI-E)

I just received my E2160 and now am a bit wary... How much does the cpu stepping matter? There are 2 versions for the E2160 (L2, and M0)... what are the differences, and which one is better? I've heard the L2 version, the type I received does not OC nearly as well as the M0 versions (requiring more voltages at lower speeds...) Is this true? Please respond soon, I need to return/exchange it if there is a difference, because the only reason I bought this processor is to OC the hell out of it!!!!!

Thanks!
