I was just getting ready to order some ram, pc6400, 800mhz ,4GB in 2 sticks, when I noticed some packages are marked as a "Vista Upgrade" and saying the memory is Vista compatible. Is this marketing hype or can I only buy the Vista compatible sales?
I want a good memory to use for OCng a Q6600 on an Asus pk5-e. I already had one in mind that someone here on the forums recommended, but then this "Vista" thing pops up and worries me, lol. I may someday want to install Vista. Should I worry if they are marked for Vista? Anyone know how critical this really is? Why would some ram be special for Vista? Also is this ram any good for stability and over clocking? Thanks
Its just marketing. All RAM will work with Vista but certain RAM will not work with certain motherboards. If OCing I recommend Crucial Ballastix DDR2 800, but they currently only have 2*1GB at your price range.
Thanks for the reply Shadow. It would have seemed silly for Microsoft to make their Vista only work with certain memories. It's good to know it's only hype. I did find a 4gb crucial for $109.. But if that's not good, I can go with OCZ or Corsair. The only other thing I wonder about is the memories with the new heat pipes. They are nice, but I wonder if those are really that necessary or just more hype. Also they are bulky and it reduces my selection to think I need heat pipes. Thanks again.
