I have a urgent question about E8400.

Are all E8400s the same regardless of the model number? Meaning... All E8400s are Wolfdales, 3.0ghz right?

Thanks in advance

the wolfdale 8400 is nice but the 8500 is even better and just came out you can Over Clock that thing to over 4ghz on Air. but i am not sure if it says wolfdale on the box. also best buy might not be the best place to buy CPU's

Right.  Wolfdale is a code like conroe or clovertown, not an actual name of the product that you will find on a box.

BestBuy doesn't sell retail/oem cpu's.  Or in other words, just the CPU.

They sell only main brand system already put together.  Unless I totally over looked a category on their website.

Finally, somebody answered his question.

As Crash Says, they are all identical.

The lone difference is OEM vs RETAIL.

OEM is cheaper, does not come with heatsink/fan and has a 1 year warranty.
RETAIL is more and comes with a heatsink/fan and has a 3 year warranty.

The CPUs themselves are identical.

If its good in theory but not in practice,
its not good theory.

thanks for all the replies.

gah, then does this mean the E8400 i bought doesnt come up with the heatsink/fan?     It doesnt show a picture of the processor though, it shows it in a box...

You guys are of great help (:

Do you have a link to show us what exactly you brought?

edit:

. o O (guess they do sell 1 processor)

BestBuy - processors

But that was only the retail X6800 for.. $1049.99

Gawd.. even Circuit City sells processors:

Motherboards & processors

It's not in stock, but they are listing a yorkie 9550 $752.99.

Geesh.
