Hey guys, looking to upgrade, and I posted, looking at the 8600 gt, but kinda thinking that may not be the greatest choice. Now I have been doing some checking around, it seems I could get 7900 gs or better for less than the 8600's. What are your guys opinions, how would such a card perform? I know they were upper end last gen cards, but wondering how good they would be.

If you can save up $160 you can pick up an GeForce 8800GS or Radeon HD 3850. The 8800GS seems to be the stronger performer of those two, and both easily destroy anything from the 7-series or the 8600s. It's hard to recommend either a 7900GS or 8600GT(S) with those two cards so close in price.

Yeah, was just kinda looking at the price when I'm seeing them go on ebay for around 100 bucks, sometimes a little under...it didn't seem bad, that's why I thought I'd ask. Maybe I will just save the $$ a while though and get something better. Especially with the 9600 gt coming out, I wonder if the 3850's will drop in pricing.

Yeah, new stuff is supposed to be coming out in Spring, so if you can hold out until then you will get a better deal.
