What do you guys think about this technology? http://www.technologyreview.com/Nanotech/20192/

Will it replace current SSDs any time soon?

The idea of using microscopically sharp tips to store data is not new. In the late 1990s, IBM demonstrated its Millipede technology, which used arrays of a thousand such tips to write and read bits. The Millipede program is still active at IBM but so far hasn't produced a commercial memory chip. Nanochip uses a similar approach.

So basically, this technology has been around for a while. The guy who is working on it now has been at it for quite a long time as well. I don't know how long it will take for this to come to the market, but when it does, It will be quite good.

My system is gone and I need to build a new system, I want SSD for faster read/writes but it's prices per a gigabyte are still very high compared to regular HDD so I was hoping that someone could give me information on the SSD scene and if it will have lower prices in about 6 months?

Does anyone know anything? even R&D?

Thanks for your replies.

BTW... Sorry I posted this in the wrong section.

I'm sure in 6 months prices will be lower, but probably not much lower. Those drives would be great to install an O/S on.

I just haven't been that impressed with "on the market" samples:

Especially when installing Vista on a a 32 GB partition is considered by many as 'too small"
