My s939 x2 system suddenly decided to smoke itself, so I'm replacing the internals of my system on the cheap, and I was wondering if these seemed like good choices for my pricerange. ($250 max).

Little backstory. I DO plan to overclock. I won a Monsoon II TEC cooler in a LAN party that's compatable with AMD/Intel processors, so that'll be replacing the stock heatsink. I'm currently running IDE devices only, which is a downer. 2 HDDs, and 1 DVD burner. Powersupply is an Antec Earthwatts 500w, and I've got an x1900xt 256meg PCI-e card along with an Audigy 2 ZS platinum soundcard (with the front bay). This is all going to be going back into my old case, seeing as how I can't afford a new one atm.

Sofar, I've found...

Intel 2160 @ 1.8Ghz for $73.99

An Open-box MSI P35 Neo2-FR for $69.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130098R
(It seemed this motherboard has gotten good ratings, I don't need the extra cables, and it's at a price that seems worthy. I'm open to other suggestions, though, as long as I'm not breaking the bank, here. ^^;;)

2x 1GB package of Kingston HyperX RAM for $66.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134066
(Yeah, I know I'm spending a bit more there, but my previous build had kingston HyperX, and that stuff hit 500Mhz without errors on reccomended voltages with tight timings, and that impressed me quite a bit.)

And to replace the DVD burner 'cause the motherboard only has one IDE channel, a SATA drive, for $23.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106247

The total after shipping comes to $243.07.

Any reccomendations are gratefully accepted, though I'd like to resolve this as soon as possible. I miss my gaming machine.

Let's see, drop that memory and get these instead.

Micron D9GMH = Yummy. Regarding the board, pretty much the best 2 brands are Asus and Gigabyte, I've had bad experiences with MSI in the past, I go for no brand but Asus and Gigabyte now-a-days, you might want to get this instead, it's a VERY HOT ticket for budget based boards.

A bit more pricey, but well worth it. Keep in mind this board doesn't have firewire/raid....But at this price, you wouldn't expect it too. uses solid capacitors also. Great board.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I would check the local Fry's and see if they have a cheap E2200 combo and then sell the motherboard (crap) that they give you and use that money to buy a better one...It may just end up costing you around 170ish with RAM included.

I getcha, but here, a ray of hope, do this.

Buy the memory from here..

Free shipping, so you only pay tax.

Get the board and CPU here.

Great deal. If you prefer the e2180, you can get it instead of the e2160 since the board offers a discount along with the e2180...Not sure which you should go for. Not sure about the e2180's oc potential. I just heard someone say it doesn't OC as well as the e2160, but not sure if that's true or not.

But the cpu has free shipping also, so you just pay shipping for the board.

Basically,

Ram = 64.99
Board = 89.99 (including shipping)
CPU = 72.50

Total before tax = 227.48 (includes shipping, since you only have to pay for mobo shipping)

After tax = 246.26

^_^..Huzzah!

I recommend clubit whole heartedly, many others would also. They directly offer steppings as well, when everyone was trying to get lucky with G0 quads, clubit offered pre orders and separate B3 and G0's for those wanting a specific stepping. I've ordered from them many times, fantastic shipping.

$256.46 for me, after I throw in the DVD-Burner! :D (need to install the OS from somthing, eh? xD) And I don't have to pay tax on the ClubIT stuff! (Yay for middle-of-nowhere washington!).

I can swing that! And you sir, are a great man! You've made my day. I've been fretting over what to get the past few days doings some research.

Doing a quick google search on the 2180, it appears to have a new stepping. (M0 or something like that), plus a higher multiplier than standard on th 21xx series.... and at least a couple people have hit above 3.6Ghz, which is a bit above where I was thinking of heading with the OC.

Plus, shaving every $1 off the price here, helps. xD

I am somewhat confused on the combo deal with the mobo/processor, though. It says to type in a code, but where would I type that in? During checkout?

Indeed, or in the shopping cart. Just type it in during one of those steps, and it'll discount the funds to save you some cash ^_^. If you need any more help, just drop a reply ^_^.

Just an update. Got the parts, installed them, and began overclocking. Stable at a very nice 3.33Ghz (333x10) at 1.385v. Idles at 25c, hits load at 41c. Havn't tightened the RAM timings down yet, though.

Am enjoying it. Almost doubled framerates in certian games over my old 4200+ @ 2.75Ghz, which REALLY suprised me.

And, just to answer the question up above- Yeah, my processor and Motherboard fried. Everything else made it out okay.
