Static seem to shock me a lot and I burned all my money to buy a static wrist guard... Now I'm trying to improvise... Is it possible for me to prevent the static electricity by just wearing a latex gloves while working on the motherboard?

I believe that will work.

Or you can simply touch a metal that's grounded, like a pipe. This way you discharge any electrical static you have on yourself. Or you can wait for a humid day to start building.

3.8 ghz at 1.2v? More likely..

Or put the PSU in and plug it into the wall socket. The ground line is connected to the PSU casing which is touching the case. When ever you're working on sensitive parts, touch the case to discharge.

Assuming that the PSU's exterior cover is conductive of course.

If you rub a balloon on your head it will absorb all the static. This works best with clean, dry, and frizzy hair.

One of the tricks I used to use earlier on was to work on the kitchen counter. The sink was right there and is very easy to ground out on. Some of the newer sinks though have PVC pipes running to the water lines, not copper. So have a look under the sink. If there is metal running from the drain or the taps back into the wall you should be okay to use that. If there is PVC or plastic then it won't ground out.

radiators, my favourate trick is to just rest a bare foot against a radiator(its nice and warm)...

no seriously, just leave it plugged in with the wall switch off and the psu switch off, the thing will be grounded through the IEC(International European conector(a.k.a kettle lead)) lead.

the radiator trick will work aswell cause all your radiators are grounded.

Latex gloves certainly won't work. Probably even worse that without...

In addition to the balloon, you should scuff around on the carpet in wool socks while wearing a polyester jump suit. That'll really eliminate the static. :kaola:

This exactly what I do. I build computers for a living and I've never had an ESD problem using this method.

Pay attention to what fibers you wear. Avoid synthetics and wool.

I've learned to disconnect the building accessory from the computer before I stick my hand in it. Otherwise there would sometimes be this blinding light and a flash of pain, followed by a burnt electrical smell. Oh, and my photo-grey glasses always turned black afterwards too!

OP: Just make sure you always ground yourself before you begin.

Oh.. just take a cold shower with your clothes on, but don't dry yourself off. That should take care of the static part....
