A Good Heatsink

Hey i just started to think, and i decided i want to overclock my CPU now, my build is only a month old, and is currently running a stock cooler. I need to get some suggestions of a good heatsink and fan to overclock my E8400, I have the power to do this with my corsair 750W. I need to know of some good heatsinks and i do not want to use push-pins, i want either screws or some better variation of push-pins. I hate them i feel like im going to break my motherboard with them.

I would get either the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro.
or
The Xigmatek HDT-S1284 and retention bracket.

The Arctic Cooling is better than the Xigmatek S1283 based on price the Xigmatek S1283 will give about 2 degrees f better heat removal.

The specs on the Xigmatek HDT-S1284 inform one that it will be better.

Right now 1 sept 08 10:51 PM newegg has the Freezer 7 pro for $25 shipped.

While the Xigmatek HDT-S1284 is $53.25 and $14 for the retention bracket.

I have pretty much came up with the following after looking at the cooling ability of a couple of the more talked about coolers on this forum.

This is the number that you want to beat.
Thermal Resistance: 0.17°C/Watt
Anything higher is a waste of your money.
If this number is not given, move along.

Oh by the way this is from the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, $32 retail.

Everyone yells Zalman Zalman Zalman, well guess what I don't find any Thermal Resistance information on their
web site or in the coolers manuals. They are over priced anyways.

$10 for .01 Degrees C/W at best a cooling of 2 Degrees C, to me it's not worth the hassle of install and expense.

Scythe SCINF-1000 120mm CPU Cooler Thermal Resistance unknown price higher than other units of know capability.

Tuniq Tower 120 P4 & K8 CPU Cooler
Thermal Resistance 0.16 - 0.21 °C / W from web site, $57.58 delivered.
Again over priced and a pain in the ass installation.

Bang for buck winner here, the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.
Why bother with anything else?

XIGMATEK has a new unit out the Xigmatek Achilles S1284 for $45 before shipping.
Thermal Resistance 0.14°C/Watt
This may be the new big boy on the block.

With installation of the XIGMATEK being so problematic and it almost requires the extra mounting bracket,
at a cost of an additional $10. I might still go with the Freezer 7 Pro.

When Xigmatek includes the extra mounting bracket in the box. I will give the newer cooler, the Achilles S1284 a try.

It comes with backplate installation, and ranked at 7th in cooling performance, which is decent.

I use this older model, before the new one went on market, it also comes with backplate.

all xigmatek ones allow u to get a backplate so u dont have to use the push pins (i agree i thought i was going to break my dads mobo)
As far as S1283 vs the S1284 the old one is better
Many think "o the 1284 has 4 pipes so its better", but its not..... the base has the pipes staggered which ruined its performance (supposedly there is a new variation coming where they arent staggered)

Anyways, the one dagger posted is very good....the best is actually the Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer which is the S1284 with its pipes not staggered....

the s1284's design flaw was the fan. The s1284EE put in a bigger fan, and the performance beats the s1283.
