Windows xp is running slow

I have Intel Quad 2,66 mhz 4, gb ram, nvidia 250 gts 1 gb video card, and the system is very slow, my previous dual core computer was faster, there must be something wrong, is there any setting ?

You can try doing a repair install of the operating system, see the fifth post from the top in Tom's XP forum.
You can try opening Bios settings, Hold F2 during startup, look at the settings for the memory and processor speed if available in your setup. (some bios does not have that)
What motherboard do you have?
