Video Card / MOBO combo... will it work ???

I've got an ASUS P5WD2 Premium board.

Will I be able to use a GeForce 8800GT card?

I've searched around but haven't been able to
find a definitive compatibility answer.

The board is PCI-E 1.1 and the card is 2.0.
Is 2.0 backwards compatible (obviously slower speeds)?

Currently there are some mobos out there that can handle 2.0but the difference in crossfire and in sli is minimal along with single cards running at 1.1 or at 2.0 is minimal as well. As chipsets get better then it will be needed but the current chipsets will not get you very much in performance

The majority of motherboards are backwards compatible with PCI-Express 2.0 cards. There are only a few exceptions.

I think the exceptions involve boards that are only 1.0 compliant. VIA chipsets come to mind but that's just something I think I recall from another thread.
