I tried

<b><i>RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove </b></i>

but it just says it can't find it. Its driving me nuts!

I'm not sure if you tried this:
click my computer
click control panel
click add remove programs
look on the list for windows messenger
click delete
close windows and restart

You can remove the windows messenger, by

Control panel>Add/remove windows Components inside that you can find windows messenger, uncheck the Windows Messenger, ok.

It'll uninstall windows messenger, restart the system.

All done.
