Hi,
I am upgrading my computer in a about a week and i just want to know how much the processor is better than the one i currently have.  I would like to know percentages and any other benchmarks people may know off.

Current processor is AMD Athlon 64 3400+
using the very old socket 754

My new processor phenom 9600

I know it is an massive upgrade but i'm just curious just how much.

Thank you all for any help.

It will be a fairly massive upgrade!
About 6 months ago I went from a 3700+ Skt754 to my 6000+ and that was very noticeable. Especially so in games and CS3, but in Windows as well.
Going from a 3400+ to a Phenom is probably going to feel like pretty mega upgrade!
Nice!  :D

Upgrading to a VIA C7 would provide better results...........

Massive difference, night and day.

I would go with an Intel for a new quad-core build, but to each his own.

Simply not true.

Intel's slowest quad-core is significantly faster than AMD's fastest.  Regardless, you'll see a HUGE difference, but you could get more bang for your buck with an Intel Quad.

Typical response from Intel fanboy robot troll.  Of course it has nothing to do with the question he asked, but you felt you needed to throw it out there as if he really cares what you would do.  Very typical of someone with no life that has nothing else to do but troll these forums.  How much does Intel pay you by the way to pimp them?

To Jongley, you will have 3 extra cores to do your multi-tasking and to run your multi-threaded apps.  You will have a huge difference when doing these things, but you wont see much difference is web browsing or regular single threaded apps.

LOL.

You truly are an AMD FanBytch.  First of all, I commented on what he asked, I said it would be a "Massive difference, night and day."

Secondly, I didn't say "AMD sucks".  However, I did note that Intel, in my opinion, was a better choice.

So was he just posting here so we could stroke his possible new rig or was he looking for some additional commentary?

Your attacks are humorous.

Did you mention to him that a phenom is only $179 where Intels cheapest is over $250...hmmmm....Maybe that would have been more important to mention than YOUR preference.  So really more bang for the buck means a little faster for $70 more huh?
Your never ending Intel ad campaign is whats humorous.

I said in some places it is that cheap.  For me, one of those stores is miles away.  Perhaps one of those stores in near the poster.  Bottom line, you're wrong.

Now like I said, go attack someone else already.
