Can PC6400 memory be overclocked to 1066mhz?

I have this memory ocz dual channel pc6400 800mhz ram. 2x2048. Timings 4-4-4-15. I've heard ocz is good for over clocking. Would 1066mhz be something that the memory could over clock to easily? or would that be stretching what it's able to do? ( motherboard asus pk5-e) I could also order some pc8000 from g.skill, but wondered what could be done with the ocz. I had also read some articles that said faster ram etc on todays boards wouldn't give much of a benefit beyond 800mhz. Is that true? I'd rather not waste time or money on something that has little return. Any ideas from someone who's done it? And if so, what programs or things were faster? thanks :D

Overclocking is not garanteed across the board. Overclocks vary. Lots of factors. Even chips out of the same batch may not be able to hit the same levels as other chips from that batch.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146731 <<< I have that. DDR2 runs at half of the rated speed. So DDR2 800 is the effective rate when the ram is running at 400MHz. I have this ram running at 512MHz or DDR2 1024. Odd frequency, I know... its just how the OC of the CPU went. I don't know how much further I could push the ram because the CPU is the limiting factor at this point for me. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. While different chips can vary on performance (like cpu's), your mushkin looks like it does pretty well at 1024. And it's odd compared to 1066, but in a way I could also think the 1066 is odd since 1024 is a nice power of two, lol. Looking around I finally found another thread on toms where they have some ddr2 running about that speed as well. So two examples now show it can be done. I had also seen some ram that runs natively at 1000 for about $139. My only other question, is if anyone has benchmarked to prove or disprove mem running at 1000+ speeds up system performance by comparison. Thanks for the info.

Agree, I don't see the real benefit for paying premium price for PC-1000 or above.

Your PC2-6400 is adequate for today's needs. With PC2-6400, logically we can push up to FSB 1600 which is sufficient for OC needs. Unless you want to go beyond FSB 1600 :)

Thus made me wonder with hairy system: What is actually your setting? You run your mem at 512MHz, are you running at FSB 2048? And what is the speed of your processor? I imagine of something like 4GHz++ :D

I run my PC6400 ballistix tracer at 1066mhz 24/7 with no sweat.

That's good to know. No sense in wasting time and money for something that gives little or no improvment. thanks

Also thanks to thecompukid.
