Kind of looks like a big hunk of trash. I mean damn, yeah look at the size of that thing. Hope you feel good about your ass ugly card. How many slots does that take up 3? I would not put that thing anywhere near my system.

LOL!

Well... I guess if it was inside a case with no windows you would never know what it would look like.

@ rochin-- i don't build computers to invite my girlfriend over and talk about how pretty it is -- I build them to pwn noobs like you.

pchoi is right--this card is in a case with no sidewindows. And i should mention that it is silent!

Noob? Pwn? I think not. I guess it is ok since you do not have to look at how ugly it is. I also said nothing about your girlfriend, so if you took offence that was not my intention. I took offence at how you act like your the computer god and no one can get a better 3dmark06 score than you. I am sure some one with one of the new EVGA cards can score higher than you. Your CPU is not that strong and I am sure the Akimbo can still OC some. So sorry to piss in your punch bowl, but your statements and your system can and will be beaten.(BTW my 3dmark06 score is 11257 not that I care, just showing you that your score is not as Uber as you think it is.)

Who cares what it looks like, if he gains enough performance to justify putting that HS/fans on, then good for him. I agree, posting a 10K 3dmark as a challenge isn't too wise and will probably be the cause of some harsh words. Some folks with a single 8800GT are over 13K.

i don't build computers to invite my girlfriend over and talk about how pretty it is -- I build them to pwn noobs like you.
:) That was actually very funny IMO.

no harm no foul rochin-- I was just throwin some back at ya'

I was just high on life last night when i posted that-- not to think that a 10k 3dmark score is great--but this is on a budget rig, with a 150 dollar vid card and a 80 dollar proc.

I was just having fun--and your response didnt offend me--i actually thought it was funny as hell-

Also- (@ rochin) I saw your rig and knew I was going to get owned by your 3dmark score! i was like, sh#@#!

Its all in good fun then. Honestly with Vista ultimate 64 I am having a problem getting riva tuner to work with 3dmark06. Most of the time it BSODs half way through. To get my score I had to tinker around after uninstalling riva tuner. But anyway I am sure you will enjoy the card. I paid almost 400 for mine when it was "new" tech. The Akimbo card is a hell of a deal at 289! Damn technology!

yeah in the last comp I built, the one thats in my profile with a x38 baord- i put vista x64 on it b/c i built the rig soley for crysis (and then sold it). too bad the crytek dev team sucked it up in a press release saying that vista x64 was going to have a noticable perf increase!! (lies!!!)

Anyways- I went back to vista 32 bit for my current comp, it just seems to have less compatibilty issues. As for riva-- I messed around with the config file last night and couldnt get it to notice my card-- so i had to use ntune to do everything.

oh and tech prices do suck, you buy today and it costs half tomm. (thats why I say thanks to ebay!! where people overpay for stuff all the time)

@ troy--

YEAH! you have an e8400!!! that cpu rocks out and pretty much pwns all!

I had one for a while before i realized that I had a budget rig with a 200 proc!!!

8400 superpi 1m= 10s, with my e2180@ 3150 my superpi 1m= 20s.

8800's are known to be bottlenecked by the cpu and that thing unleashes it!!!

i want that proc back-- but im waiting for the bloomfields to come out (have to save some money for those bad boys!!!)

-thanks for the reply

oh and i currently have a new score with my e2180 @ 3150 and the 8800gs at
761 core /903 mem (1806 effective)/1905 shader

10,726 on 3dmrk06. 500point increase--still going strong!!!

--should note, temps on this card with that cooler are never above 45C

with my setup i was only able to get my 8800gt to 11,367 OC'd to 700/1000 and 11,235 non-OC'd at 600/900 for 3dmark06.

not that i'm really into this, but it is interesting none the less!

Good lord! that is a mighy large cooler. That thing is larger than my x1900xtx with a thermalright HR-03 cooler and 120mm fan zippy tied to the thing. And that kept the little heater (aka x1900xtx, aka hottest running card created by man, aka at stock cooling hit 93C frequently)

Psssst! I bet if you just plug the fans it the lbs of thrust would be greater than the actual weight if the card making it a hovering object.

Not to rag on ya, it's just funny. I have found though going from my x1900xtx with similar type cooler to a 8800gts512 that those type circulate the heat in your case and heat everything else up. My Mobo temp dropped 5C on load when I switched cards because this one blows it out the 2nd expansion slot.

Lol Jay, you've never experienced the 7950GX2. That is the hottest card ever made. 102c easy on stock cooling. Most of the time one PCB is a lot hotter than the other due to the horrible design. My friend melted his X-Fi extreme gamer that was mounted under it because it rubbed up against it. I'm pretty sure you could cook eggs on it.

Haha my buddy has one of them in his "server" although it never hit that since he sought out the highest cfm fans he could find for case flow. Sounds like a damn hurricane.

Dear lord, ever hear of proper case air flow buddy boy? haha 102C?

Mmmmm eggs, breakfast.

That cooler is insane,it actually makes my HR-03 Plus (with a 120 mm fan) look tiny. hey, if I had a budget build that got a good 3DMark score, I would be bragging/showing off too. By the way, what were the origional clocks on that card ?

this card was the base model xfx 8800gs for 149 shipped at newegg.

stock clocks were at 580core, 700mem (1400 eff), 1450 shader.

i love the comments--this has been a fun thread!

Think you can do those kind of speeds with the stock cooler im really interested now in getting one, im selling my current card 2900PRO 512mb/256, and the price is really tempting

Yeah but i would still rather pay $100 more for a higher end card then overclocking the crap out of a lower model. You can get the MSI 8800GTS 512 for $255 after rebate now. I still prefer paying more for something that is already at a level of the lower models which can OC that high. Now if the difference was like $200+ then it would be appitizing to OC.

That think still looks giant. What really makes you feel bad is the next gen cards that have tiny little coolers that take half the power and pound your card into the sand a year from now. Then you look at your giant goliath and see the size really doesnt matter.

I look at my ATI x1900xtx with big cooler sitting right on my desk each night thinking. GEEZ thats a big thing.

Hey echofoxtrot, I must say for that budget thats one nice score, I only get 14k in my rig, so its great you can get over 11k on that budget.

My Rig:
E6750 @ 3.6Ghz with a Swiftech h120 water cooling system
2x XFX 8800 GT's both with Thermaltake Duorbs (Don't have exact OC right now, but its nothing special)
XFX 680i LT
4 GB Mushkin 800 mhz DDR2
1x 500 GB Seagate HD
PC P&C silencer 750w
Modded Antec 900

Waiting for the new 45nm processors and next Nvidia/ATI cards to come out before I upgrade. I really hope AMD can get back in the game too, I perfer AMD over Intel any day.

I agree. That is a fantastic score for a cheapo rig. Sometimes all it takes is planning and the right parts.

It's still a big F___ing cooler. haha :D
