E8400 is out-of-stock in my local store until mid-April. I now have 3 choices:

1. A open box E8400
2. A new E6850
3. Wait until mid-April

Should I get a open-box CPU? Any risks in getting a inferior product?

The open box is a retail version (not OEM).

Is there any way to test a CPU to check if it's "healthy"? I guess it's possible that the CPU has been abused (with excessive or incorrect OC or ...).

How much is the open box? Just buy a new retail for $199. Yeah, if you buy the open box all you can do is install it and use and see that it works. I don't see a lot of threads where people are abusing thier 8400's to the point of total failure and returning them.

It's almost the same price as a new one. The other choice is to wait until mid-April for a new E8400.

Is E6850 that bad? Not sure but I think I read it something that the 65 nm CPU would last longer than 45 nm CPU.
